When is it an acceptable time to start talking about fantasy football? Whenever the fuck you want, just know the majority of the world won’t be interested. At least we have each other. The past couple of years it’s been a barren wasteland for running backs in the draft. Everyone knew RBs such as LeVeon Bell, Devonte Freeman, David Johnson would be in the top tier, but the rest were iffy. A lot of players were coming off of injuries and suspensions leaving questions and concerns regarding fantasy value. However, this year we’re stacked and we have more running backs than we know what to do with. So in a highly premature attempt, let’s try and rank them:
- LeVeon Bell
- Ezekiel Elliot
- Melvin Gordon
- Todd Gurley
- David Johnson
- Dalvin Cook
- Alvin Kamara
- LeSean McCoy
- Leanard Fournette
- Christian McCafferey
Now that everyone has their panties in bunch, let’s pump the brakes for a second and discuss the two players I left out. Most fantasy sites have Saquan Barkley and Kareem Hunt in their top 10. I get it, Saquan was an absolute monster in college and looks like he was immaculately conceived by God himself. But regardless of how ridiculous his quads look while golfing, the bottom line is he’s still a rookie and has a lot to prove. Remember Trent Richardson? He was practically revered as the second coming of Christ when the Browns drafted him. In his defense, being selecting by Cleveland almost guarantees you’ll become a bust. Baker Mayfield our prayers are with you.

Kareem Hunt came out of the gate firing, but busted his load too soon like so many of us do. I’m an avid believer of the sophomore slump and with an unproven QB making his debut into the league, I’m not willing to take a chance on a young duo.
Now the rest of my ranking is pretty standard except for Melvin Gordon breaking into the top 3 and Christian McCaffery coming in at number 10. Melvin Gordon has had some injury issues, but is coming into his own. With Phillip Rivers aging, it only makes sense that they focus more on the run game and that is why I have him in the top 3.
As stated above, I’m a believer in the sophomore slump, but Christian McCaffery is going to be the exception because this is my blog and I don’t give a fuck. He’s an extremely versatile RB that plays a lot of slot and is motioned out of the backfield frequently. This gives him more opportunities to make a fantasy impact than your typical workhorse.
Now, I’m no expert.. but this is on the internet, so it’s probably right.
